A Lenten Reflection

March 8, 2021 | Miles Christi

Dear friends,
Greetings during this Holy Season of Lent! The season of Lent, as you may know, is a very busy time for us priests. In my case, I have been traveling all over, from weekend retreats, meetings, in addition to working with FOCUS (The Fellowship of Catholic University Students) on reaching our young men and women in college. And even though I am so busy, I am determined to not let that be the focus of my Lent. I am determined to let this Lent be a time where I reflect on the Passion of Christ and in turn his incredible mercy.

During the season of Lent, as a Church, we are taught to focus on Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. This is vital to the Christian life. But if we are not careful, we can be so busy and focused on following the set of rules that we neglect our time with the Supreme Ruler Himself, Jesus Christ.

It was St. Francis de Sales who said, “Half an hour’s meditation each day is essential, except when you are busy. Then a full hour is needed.” I try to remember this when I am busy, especially during the Season of Lent.

In order to help us stay focused, I am recommending 3 things. If you have not already, I would encourage you to join me in practicing the following during this Lenten Season:

1) Join us for the remaining Lenten YouTube Live Q&A’s.
2) Watch the past YouTube Live Q&A’s.
3) Prayerfully consider supporting our Lenten efforts with $5 or more a day.

I will be back in touch again soon, and in the meantime, I do hope that you will be able to join us for next week’s YouTube Live, as well as support our Lenten efforts. Thank you in advance for your consideration, and thank you for all that you do on behalf of our Lord’s Church

Gratefully,
Fr. John, MC
